Guide to Celebrating Earth Month at Disney's Animal Kingdom in 2024. Earth Day at Walt Disney World

Happy Earth month! Earth Day is on April 22nd, and Walt Disney World Resort is celebrating all April long.

During the month long celebration, Disney's Animal Kingdom offers limited-time experiences including specialty food and beverages, rare Disney character appearances, learning opportunities, new merchandise, and more!

Here’s all the ways you can celebrate Earth Day, Earth Week, and Earth Month at Walt Disney World Resort in 2024.

Did you know Earth Day is the birthday of Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park?? Animal Kingdom opened April 22, 1998, and is turning 26 this year!

Celebrating Earth Week at Walt Disney World Resort

From April 21 - April 28, 2024, Walt Disney World celebrates Earth Week at Animal Kingdom with cool experiences  such as, exclusive food and drinks, fun Magic Shots, special character meet and greets, and more.

Rare Characters Available at Disney’s Animal Kingdom During Earth Week

From April 21 -April 28, you have the opportunity to enjoy meet and greets with characters who aren't normally out and about inside Animal Kingdom.

During each day Earth Week-- The special characters change, and can usually be spotted near the Tree of Life Gardens across from Creature Comforts (Starbucks).

Kenai and Koda from Brother Bear can be seen floating around Discovery River on a flotilla.

Also during Earth Week— DeVine is in full bloom. You can normally find her next to the stroller rental area at the park entrance. She usually comes out around the 45-minute mark of each hour.

Here’s a few of the rare characters I’ve seen so far:

Times vary, but you can look for these unique characters typically between 9:00 am - 4:00 pm every day.

Note—  you can still meet Mickey and Minnie Mouse at Adventurers Outpost, as well as, all  your other favorite Animal Kingdom characters as they cruise around Discovery River.

Right now guests have a chance to keep an eye out for Animal Kingdom’s newest addition, 4 month old baby Elephant Corra!

2024 Special Offerings to Celebrate Earth Month at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

The Animation Experience at Conservation Station

While the Animation Experience is available year-round at Animal Kingdom, during the month of April, you have the opportunity to draw some really special characters like Simba from The Lion King. Terk from Tarzan, Bruce or Crush from Finding Nemo, Dumbo, and Tigger from Winnie the Pooh.

Each class lasts about 25-minutes, and features different Disney characters. Don't worry, there's step-by-step instructions from a Disney animator. If I can do it, you can do it!

I really love that this activity is free, and you can do this experience multiple times. It's a neat way to keep adding to your Animal Kingdom art collection, and makes for a memorable souvenir.

Disney PhotoPass Magic Shots

Throughout the entire month of April, Disney PhotoPass photographers are capturing all new,  limited-time Magic Shots celebrating Earth Month.

You can find them at the following locations:

Wall-E and Eve Magic Shot – at the park entrance

NEW Flit and Meeko Magic Shot – by the Discovery River between Africa and Asia

NEW Pocahontas Compass Prop + Magic Shot – by the Discovery River between Africa and Asia

NEW Heimlich Magic Shot – most Disney PhotoPass locations

NEW Tiny Tree of Life Prop + Magic Shot – by the Discovery River between Africa and Asia

You can also download new wallpapers featuring Disney World's famous animal inhabitants for your phone, desktop and virtual meetings.

National Geographic Photo Frame

You can step into the  yellow National Geographic border for a unique photo op. The 2024 National Geographic photo frame is inspired by the upcoming "Secrets of the Octopus" docuseries streaming on Disney+ and Hulu on April 22, 2024.

This is located at the main entrance plaza.

Special Wilderness Explorers Badge

 You can earn a special Wilderness Explorer nature badge while learning how to connect with nature around you. Follow in the footsteps of Russell from the Pixar film "Up" as you set out on a series of fun, nature-themed challenges and earn badges around the park.  Collect over 25 badges!

This is also free! You’ll just need to pick up a map and Field Guide from either one of the Wilderness Explorers stops in Rafiki’s Planet Watch, Africa, Asia, Dinoland U.S.A. or Pandora. The Wilderness Explorers Headquarters located on the bridge between Discovery Island and the Oasis  is your other option.

If you're able to dine at Tiffin's, DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS NEW APPETIZER. It was absolutely banging! 11/10.

Huge portion size, high-quality ingredients and flavor. It all just goes so well together. I also appreciate this dish not being too heavy. It's a great option for a really hot park day.

The pickled onion pairs so nicely with crunch of the fresh zucchini's. There’s a creamy tang from the plant-based feta, and I  loved the zing from the olives and tomatoes. Don't worry, not too salty. This app is a home run with the perfect amount of sweetness from the sweet potatoes on top.

This dessert is easily sharable. I loved that the base of this treat is brownie-like. The mousse yummy, but nothing mind blowing. The honey flavor is very very minnaml. I enjoyed a lot, but wouldn’t order again.
