Review: Disney’s Art of Animation Cars Family Suite in 2024

Disney’s Art of Animation is 1 of 5 value resorts at Walt Disney World. Theming pays honor to Disney’s movie animation, and to those who brought iconic Disney characters to life.
Disney’s Art of Animation Resort is one of my favorite resorts! The resort itself is really fun, especially if you are traveling with folks that love Disney Animation or have children.
I hope this in depth Hotel review will help you be able to choose the best option for your next Walt Disney World vacation.

Art of Animation Brief:

The Resort

Art of Animation Resort is divided into 4 specifically themed areas based on Disney & Pixar movies.
The four themed areas:
  • Finding Nemo
  • Cars
  • The Lion King
  • Little Mermaid
The family suites have two rooms, a kitchenette (with mini-fridge, coffee maker, and microwave), and two bathrooms which is ideal for families.
  • The Little Mermaid (standard room)
  • Cars (suite)
  • The Lion King (suite)
  • Finding Nemo (suite)
All of the suite rooms are located closer to the lobby & restaurant (and the Big Blue Pool) area. The Little Mermaid standard rooms are the furthest away and the hallways and room entrances are outside.

Amenities at Art of Animation

3 Pools

Art of Animation doesn’t have a hot tub or jacuzzi; those are found at Disney's moderate and deluxe resorts. There’s also no water slides at Art of Animation's pools.

The Big Blue Pool

  • Largest pool on Walt Disney World property.
  • Located off the backside of the Animation Hall and Landscape of Flavors.
  • Busiest of the 3 since it’s the resorts main pool.
  • You can listen to Disney songs while swimming, as this pool has underwater speakers.
  • A giant Mr. Ray, whose wingspan is 27 feet, looks over the area, which includes a colorful reef and the East Australian Current.
  • Splash Pad areas
  • Squirt’s Righteous Reef playground (in the Finding Nemo courtyard)

Cars Cozy Cone Pool

  • This pool has cone-shaped cabanas!
  • Themed after the Cozy Cone Motel from the Cars movies, and features giant traffic cones.
  • Quiet Pool
  • Lift accessible for guests with disabilities or limited mobility.

Flippin’ Fins Pool

  • Located in the Little Mermaid section.
  • This pool area has theming from the “Under the Sea Orchestra” conducted by Sebastian.
  • It’s surrounded by large sculptures of King Triton and Ursula
  • Smaller and less busy
  • Lift accessible for guests with disabilities or limited mobility

Dining Option at Art of Animation

On-site dining options at Art of Animation are limited but still provides great options families hoping to keep their food budget down. There’s 1 main dinning option and 1 pool bar.

Landscape of Flavors

  • Located off the Animation lobby.
  • This is the one main dinning option. It’s a combo of made- to order and quick service items. Food stations are arranged cafeteria-style.
  • Divided into four themed seating areas, each one designed like the backgrounds in the four films represented at the resort. The art on the walls are landscape paintings from the films.
  • Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served.
  • American themed menu with burgers, pizza, chicken sandwiches, bakery case, and more.
  • The food isn’t anything special. I’d comparable it to your average quick service meal.
  • You can walk up and order. However, using Disney’s mobile order service in the My Disney Experience app can save you a lot of time!

Disneyland Hotel Amenities & Recreation

Notable Art of Animation Hotel Perks

  • Early Entry to Disneyland Resort-DisneyWorldResort hotel guests can enter either theme park 30 minutes before the parks open to access select attractions, and dining.

Things to Consider Before Staying at Art of Animation Cars Suite:

Your Budget

The Disneyland Hotel is in the middle rate wise amongst the three on-site Disneyland hotels.

How much time are you planning to spend at the hotel?

if like me, and you’re an open-to-close theme park goer, you might not be spending a lot of time at the hotel apart from sleeping. if you want to save money on your accomodations, its worth considering a less expensive hotel near Disneyland for less.

But if you want to come and go between the hotel and the theme park to take breaks to use the pools and cool off or relax within the Disney magic, then this is your place.

Location

It doesn't have a dedicated theme park entrance like the other two hotels, but you can take the Skyliner the parks

Is The Cars Family Suite Worth The Price?

The proximity to both parks, Downtown Disney, and the perk of getting early entry into the parks each day, it’s worth it.
Being able to take the Monorail back to the hotel midday & as needed to cool off in the pool or if you have littles, head back for nap time is a game changer.
