What Is Single Rider Line at Universal Orlando?

A good amount of attractions at Universal Orlando have 3 line entrances. Regular Standby, Express and Single Rider.
Universal Orlando’s Single-Riders line is a separate queue, similar to the Express Pass line. This line is sepearte from the regular Standby line.
The Team Members loading guests onto the attraction will use folks in the Single Rider line to fill any remaining seats. This usually happens when there’s a party with an odd number, or a large group that has to be split up.
The main purpose of having a Single Rider line is to decrease wait times for guests. But.
Typically, Single Rider has shorter wait times than Regular Standby since most guests would rather ride together.
When walking through the Single Rider queue— you're basically skipping the Regular Standby and it’s queue details
If you’re ok with being split up and riding by yourself or with a stranger, then Single Rider might be a great option for you and, of course, to help you save time.

Any attraction offering Single Rider will have a labeled queue sign for you to enter.

Once you enter the Single Rider line— you’ll just make you way through this sepearte queue line until you meet the Team Member loading the attraction or the end of the line.

From there, you will wait for a ride vechile with empty seats. A Team Member will usually call out, “ Single Rider— Row x!

On occasion, it’s not unusual for a Team Member to call out out, “ I need a party of 2!’ If no one in the Regular Standby line raises their hands, they will signal for 2 guests in the Single Rider line to board.

These empty seats are usually created by guests with odd parties, like 3 or 5 people, when many train cars are set up in rows for 2 or 4 guests.

On slower days, it’s no unusual for Single Rider at certain attractions to remained closed.

Altneratively-— on busier days, the Single Rider line may Temporarily close due to being at capacity.

you might have to wait for awhile in the Single Rider Line at Universal,

There’s just no real way to predict when/if they’re open and how long exactly you’re going to be waiting.

Not every ride at Universal Orlando Resort has a Single Rider Line, which should be taken into consideration if you’re looking to use it, or are comparing it to Express Pass.
Most of Islands of Adventure’s attractions have Single Rider Lines, which can be a huge time saver when visiting IOA during peak times.
A lot of guests end up walking right past them, so make sure if you cannot find the Universal Single Rider lines to ask a Team Member before entering.

When Should You Use Single Rider Line?

  • If it’s a busy day at Universal Orlando and the Standby line is long.
  • If Express Pass wasn’t in the budget or was sold out— Single Rider is often times your next best option.
  • Single Rider is a great option if you want to ride an attraction more than once and if you’ve already experienced the Standby line.
  • If you are visiting with a large group and are wanting to know out rides quicker.

What Are The Benefits of Using Single Rider at Universal Orlando?

  • Using Single Rider at Universal  typically cuts wait times down by half, but cannot always be guaranteed for every ride.
  • Unlike Express Pass--It’a completely free, and you don’t have to pay extra to use this line in your park ticket.
  • You can use Single Rider line as many times as you want at each attraction.
    • I personally love using Single Rider to ride Gringotts over and over closer to park closing.
  • A great alternative if visiting during a busy time of year and Express Pass or staying at a Premier Universal Orlando Hotel is just out of your budget.

What Are The Drawbacks To Using Single Rider at Universal Orlando?

  • In the Single Rider lines you'll miss most, if not all, of queue details, Easter eggs and backstory.
    • Particularly for Harry Potter and The Forbidden Journey,, Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts and VelociCoaster.
  • The Single Rider line is VERY unpredictable. It’s efficiency varies day to day
  • it’s not always open, and it’s not offered at every Universal Orlando attraction
  • You’ll skip the Pre-Shows in some attractions.
    • Ex: Hagrid’s, Gringotts, MIB, VelociCoaster, etc.
  • Sometimes the wait time in Single Rider turns out to be longer.
    • Often in rides that are 2 seaters. Ex: Hagrid’s + VelociCoaster
  • In some attractions you'll skip the in-queue photo op
    • Gringotts
  • Single Rider does means you will not not be sitting next to someone in your party.
    • 9 times out of 10 all parties are split up.

Things To Keep In Mind

  • If there's a shorter Regular Standby wait time, don’t feel like you have to use it. If you have an Express Pass, and you want to ride with someone in your group— don’t use Single Rider
  • You cannot request rows. Unfortunately, you have to go where there is an empty seat
    • This means no front row, so it's up to chance as to what row you’re going to get.
    • If Riding front row on attractions like VelociCoaster and Hulk are important to you, use the Regular Standby line.
  • Stressing that you might end up waiting longer. It has happened to me before particularly on VelociCoaster and Hagrid’s.
    • Scope out the line, and don’t be afraid to bail and either hop into the Standby Line, or bail all together and come back to the attraction later.
