2024 Mardi Gras Parade at Universal Orlando

As the Mardi Gras parade winds through the streets of Universal Studios, it features lights, music, dozens of street performers, and beads being thrown from floats made by Kern Studios, the same company that has created Mardi Gras floats for the event in New Orleans.
This year's 2024 Mardi Gras parade theme brings the elements to life in six new, beautifully designed parade floats. They are inspired by Earth, wind, fire, water, the sun, and the moon. The new collection of element floats will join Universal's traditional lineup of New Orleans-inspired floats to create this year's parade.
Don't miss seeing Universal's iconic floats, including the 50-foot King Gator float, and the two-story riverboat.

Reversed Mardi Gras Parade Route

The biggest change to this year’s Mardi Gras parade: It’s going counter clockwise! in 2024 the parade is traveling the same path but in the opposite direction, much as former Superstar Parade used to do.
The means that certain spots that were once perfect parade viewing locations (corner near Mel’s Drive-In) are now too far from the route for guests lots of beads.
The Mardi Gras Parade happens every night, but double check the start time in the Universal Orlando app.The parade will have different start times depending on the night you go:

Parade starts at 5:15 p.m. on the following dates:

  • Feb. 5, 7, 12, 27

Parade starts at 6:15 p.m. on the following dates:

  • Feb. 4, 6, 8-9, 11, 13-16, 21-23, 25-26, 28

  • March 1, 3-8

Parade starts at 7:30 p.m. on the following dates:

  • Feb. 19-20

  • March 11-15, 18-31

  • April 1-7

Parade starts at 7:45 p.m. on the following dates:

  • Feb. 3, 10, 17-18, 24

  • March 2, 9-10, 16-17

To ensure a good spot to view the parade, I recommend picking out a location about an hour before the parade starts, especially during weekend/concert nights.
I personally like grabbing a parade viewing spot by The Revenge of the Mummy, or Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon. These spot give you a really awesome view of the parade.
Children 10 and under can have their own private parade experience in the Little Jester’s Parade Viewing Area located in front of the Brown Derby Hat Shop. This locations fill up pretty fast, so plan to arrive early.
If you want to attend one of the Mardi Gras concerts at 8:30 p.m. I recommend snagging a spot along the edge of the street in front of Music Plaza Stage. This will get you close to the concert area so you can get a better concert spot.
A good plan of attack is tying to get a spot across the street from Minion Cafe at least an hour before the parade starts. You'll be right at the front of that section when the ropes is put up. Right when the parade concludes, you'll be able to make your way to the concert viewing area a lot faster. Don’t be afraid to politely weave your way closer to the front for a front fries if its a performer you're really excited to see!
If your'e not too particular about where you watch the Mardi Gras parade, aim to find a parade spot at least 30 minutes ahead of time. If it's a weekend night, arrive 45 minutes early since the crowd levels are busier.

2024 Mardi Gras Concerts at Universal Orlando

Every year during Universal's Mardi Gras celebration, there are special headliners who perform on select nights during the celebration. Mardi Gras Concerts are included with park admission. Concerts take place at Music Plaza Stage in Universal Studios Florida, and begin at 8:30 PM.
Depending on the performer, some guests may begin to line-up in the morning. If you’re keen on experiencing Mardi Gras for the concert, I recommend you skip the parade to make sure you get a good spot to watch the concert.
Concerts begin shortly after the parade ends. The duration of each concert varies, but they typically last for an hour to an hour & a half.
If you don't mind missing the parade, I suggest you snag your grass area concert viewing spot an hour ahead of time. Concert crowds vary depending how popular the performer is that week. For Example Zedd and DJ Khaled will bring in more guests compared to some of the other performers.

Crowds Level at Universal During Mardi Gras

Weekdays have been historically less crowded – especially mid-week. Mardi Gras, can have heavy crowds, particularly during Spring Break, or a Holiday weekend.
Any Mardi Gras weekend that features 2 performers— those are the weekends where Universal will have larger crowds. For the lowest crowds during Mardi Gras, aim to visit during the weekdays. More Floridians have weekends off from work than weekdays.
Concerts also take place on Fridays and Saturdays, at 8:30pm pm February 3 - March 6th. The concerts always pack the park. If you’re wanting to visit on a lower crowd day, avoid going on a concert night.

  • Universal Orlando offers its annual passholders the ability to sign up as a bead tossing float rider.  The requirements are that the passholder be at least 18 years of age or 48 inches in height and accompanied by an adult.  Last year Universal posted the sign up alert on the Universal Annual Passholder Facebook Group and Twitter.

How Do You Collect The Most Mardi Gras Beads?

Keep those hands raised high during the Mardi Gras parades! Kiddos in the front of the parade seem to really rack up the beads, lol.
Universal Orlando also has some really cool specialty ones for purchase.($3.99+) You can buy those at the Universal CityWalk store, the Universal Studios Florida gift shop, the Mardi Gras Tribute Store, and at some of the smaller outdoor shopping carts.

Is Mardi Gras at Universal Orlando Appropriate for Children?

Yes! Everything is kid-friendly, and it’ll make for a memorable family experience. The atmosphere is very festive, with lots of New Orleans party music. There’s also Mardi Gras “characters” who walk around, and they love interacting with kiddos. They’re known to hand out beads, and pose for family photos.
It’s not comparable to the real Mardi Gras in New Orleans or Halloween Horror Nights.

Where to Stay During Mardi Gras?

Both on-site and nearby off-site hotels book up quickly, so I recommend that you make you hotel reservations as early as possible. Crowd levels have been historically pretty high after the end of February. This is due not only to the Mardi Gras event, but there’s always school holidays as well large conventions coming to Orlando where many hotels block off room for the convention attendees.

Depending on whose performing that night, front row lawn seats are claimed very early, like 2 – 3 hours before the performance so make sure you head that way with enough time so ensure you get the seats you want.
  • If you want to enjoy the concert, but don’t feel like getting to the stage 2 – 3 hours early there really is no bad spot. Even far back nearJimmy Fallon. If front row seats aren’t a priority, don’t sweat it.
