The Harry Potter New York store had added some exciting new additions this summer, including a new green screen broomstick experience, a limited-edition Quidditch inspired cupcake, and new movie props on display.
From June 20- June 23, Harry Potter New York was offering free 30 minute prop tours.
Here’s a closer look at the 12 new-to-the-store authentic props from the Harry Potter films have that have been added to Harry Potter New York, and some cool facts about each movie prop!
You can still see these movie props in person at the store on your own.

On June 17th, Harry Potter New York invited me to preview the new broomstick experience before it officially opened to the public on June 20th.

Draco Malfoy Wand

Draco's wand is made from hawthorn, with a unicorn hair core and is exactly ten inches.
Tom Felton is one of the many actors who would choose his wand to take home as a souvenir of his time on the Harry Potter film series.

Bellatrix Lestrange Wand

Helena Bonham Carter was able to choose her wand, which is supposed to be an extension of her; "It gives me a long arm and it's good for doing your Hair." You can see her twirling and twisting it around her hair in the Harry Potter Films.
Helena accidentally perforated Actor Mathew  Lewis eardrum during the ministry battle scene in Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix.

Bellatrix Lestrange Dagger

This is the dagger that Bellatrix Lestrange throws at Harry Potter's friends as they are fleeing Malfoy Manor in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part / which ultimately kills Dobby the house-elf.
A stunt version of the dagger was created from rubber so that it could be thrown in this scene.

Sirius Black Wand

Sirius' wand is simply shaped but highly decorated. The handle is adored in runic symbols that complement the tattoos on Black's body and translate to 'more or less human' relating to him being an Animagus.
Actor Gary Oldman was instructed by wand choreographers to give his wand moves more of a 'street' feeling, to represent the actions of someone who had just spent 12 years in prison.

Severus Snape Wand

Actor Alan Rickman kept one of the original wood wands that he used on set.
The wood, core and length of Snape's wand is unknown in the Harry Potter book series. Dark ebony black with an intricate and unique design that is doubled on both sides. The wand is spare, black and confined, reflecting the way Snape prefers to carry himself.

Sorcerer's Stone

Several prop stones were created out of plastic, which has the tendency to look more like a big piece of candy than a ruby. So, in order to give it the shimmering, flickering appearance of a real gem, filmmakers used lighting trickery.
The reflection of light seen in the stone was from a small flame placed on top of the camera as it was filmed.

Time Turner Necklace

Miraphora Mina of Minalima studied clocks, watches as well as astrological instruments as a source of inspiration.
The Time-Turner needed to be small and discrete enough for Actress Emma Watson to be able to hide in her costume but needed it to function and become 3D when she shares it with Harry. The end result was a ring within a ring.
The quote around the gold necklace says, "I mark the hours every one nor have I yet out run the sun" on the outer ring and "My use and value unto you are gauged by what you have to do".

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Book

JKR wrote the contents of the textbook under the pen name of the fictional author, Magizoologist Newt Scamander, who travelled the world in the early 20th century researching magical creatures.
The cover of the book was designed by Graphic Artist Miraphora Mina, who did not know the relevance of the textbook at the time, only that it was one of many textbooks she had to design.

Death Eater Mask

To create the Death Eater masks, moulds were taken of each of the principal (named) Death Eaters so that their masks would fit each actor. Rubber masks were made for stunts so that the metal masks would not hurt the actors.
Designs were etched and then dipped in and out of the different substances including acid and repeated numerous times to achieve the final effect.

Nimbus 2001

Aircraft-grade titanium was used in the centre to keep it lightweight but strong before being covered in mahogany wood.
The broomstick was used to show the affluence of the Malfoy family as Draco's father purchased the newest broomstick for the entire Slytherin Quidditch team.

Locket Of Slytherin

Inspiration for the real Slytherin locket was based on an eighteenth-century piece of jewelry from Spain that Miraphora Mina saw in a museum, who loved the idea the crystal was faceted, "So it was almost like as there were lots of different sides, you didn't quite know which bit of it was going to open".
The locket face was surrounded by astrological symbols, specifically horoscopes.
Because the locket would need to be destroyed in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1, the Prop Making Team were briefed to create one or two duplicates. However, it ended up being 40, due to the scene where Ron Weasley had to destroy the locket.

The Quibbler

The Quibbler was printed on newsprint paper to give it more of a tabloid feel.
5000 copies of The Quibbler were printed to pile around the Lovegood house during the scene where Harry, Ron and Hermione visit Xenophilius in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1.
